Days 3-6 - Moving to Oklahoma
Day 3: We left Burley, ID having eaten breakfast at Super 8 with a trace of protein. Ronnie’s highlight was biscuits and gravy. Our lunch packed, we took off. While we wanted to get to Cheyenne, WY this day we knew that was too much (747 miles) for one day. We made good progress during the day; Ronnie had another of those difficult times maneuvering around the gas pumps. Then when we arrived at Super 8 in Rawlins, WY that evening we found both straps off the wheels. It was too late to call the U-Haul 2.5 miles away and we couldn’t drive so we proceeded to check-in. This was problematic in a number of ways – Ronnie made a list so he could write a review for what he calls the worst “Super 8” ever. We had wanted to do laundry, but it was too late for that and we missed the restaurant next door by minutes. Finally, we walked 3 businesses down from the Super 8 to buy sandwiches from a gas station c-store. Day 3 was especially rough on Ronnie.
End of Day 3 – Rawlins, Wyoming – about 4.3 states down and 3.7 to go.
Day 4: This day began with dealing with the difficulties of yesterday and before. First, Ronnie called the electric companies – PSE was supposed to have faxed a credit letter to PSO who hadn’t received it. In the end they had used an incorrect fax number. So by Day 5 – on the day before service was to begin we learned that it was finally received and service will begin on our first day in our apartment without paying deposits. Next, Ronnie called U-Haul and then the U-Haul Road Assistance. Again, the situation was resolved quickly and we were on the road by 11:00 am – not as soon as we had hoped, but not bad.
Memories of Driving Through Wyoming:
• Many years ago and 4 cars ago – we were driving an Astro van pulling a 16’ travel trailer. We ran out of gas. A good Samaritan helped us out, but we have been careful not to run out of gas in Wyoming since. • Last year on our trip to family reunion in Colorado and visit to Bartlesville – van began overheating in Wyoming. We limped along until we got into Colorado – spent a day in Ft. Collins while repairs were made. • This year – minor by comparison in reality, but with major potential consequences – the straps came off van wheels.
While in Wyoming we thought it would be a good idea to chat with Billie Cooper who lives in Wyoming – we had a nice catch up with her.
End of Day 4 – Colby, KS – About 5.3 states down and 1.7 to go.
Day 5
This is our last full day of traveling. It was the shortest day so far and we arrived in time to do laundry, but sadly (or not so sadly) there are no laundry services at this Super 8. Everything went smoothly today. One way I know that it was a better day for Ronnie is because he was serenading me as we went down the Interstate.
End of Day 5 – Wichita, KS – About 7.8 states down and 1.2 to go.
I have been reading and listening to Hebrews this week: (I hate to quote only parts, but these are some highlights.)
“But we would see Jesus…. 2:9
And again, I will put my trust in him…” 2:13 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any Two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. 4:13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do. 4:14 Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession. 4:15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin. 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
Jesus is a better testament, is our high priest – 7:22
Jesus is the mediator of a better covenant – 8:6,7
Jesus is a better sacrifice – His own blood – 9:11
Jesus is a new and living way – 10:20
Jesus, in heaven is a better and enduring substance – 10:34
I am reminded what our dear friend Mark Johnson (now with the Lord) taught as he preached through Hebrews – “Christ is better than ….” You name it and He is better. Nothing and no one else satisfies, saves, comforts etc.
End of Day 6 – Bartlesville, OK – We arrived around 2:30 pm and were in our apartment by 3:15. We unloaded our van and began to get settled. We had brought an air mattress in the van and so we slept in our new home. We did laundry and went to bed getting ready for “move-in day.”
